Growing up the CunninLynguists were a household name. No one bumped Lynguistics or Half Animal harder than Thompson Street. Mom was never too pumped about it, and it took a quick peek at Urban Dictionary to understood why. Because of this lyrical deviancy, cool vibes and their string-filled beats, I’ve been a CunninLynguists fan since junior high.
Eight years later, they have a new album out. It’s ok. But one track, South California, really captures their old feel. Just drives home the point that they are princes of backpack rap.
Shout out to our boy Kip in LA. Head on a swivel for those Cali beach bodies.
