“In the late seventies, as Nigeria slowly recovered from civil war and famine, a six-foot-five, two-hundred-plus-pound figure named William Onyeabor installed advanced analog synthesizers in an elaborate studio in the former Biafran capital of Enugu, established his own record-pressing plant, and started single-handedly producing electronic dance music.”

Explosions! Onyeabor’s music is one-of-a-kind, and up until very recently, damningly obscure. David Byrne’s Luaka Bop label has resurrected these gems of electronic music. What follows is a track from the forthcoming record of Onyeabor remixes and “duets,” as Hot Chip front man, Joe Goddard, demonstrates with his signature lilt.
